Do-Rite Donut Shop

This morning PK didn’t have to be at work until a little later, so he took me to Do-Rite Donuts on a fun little morning date. It’s a place he and his friend Joel frequent and PK is always speaking highly of it. The donuts, the coffee, the convenience and the efficiency of it.
He was right. About all of that.
Which 90% of the time he is usually right on any matter in life really. I know that’s not what it’s about in a marriage, being wrong or right, but if it were what it was about, PK would be the winner. And I’m cool with that now, most of the time.  He’s smart and way more practical and sensible than I and he’s really good at directions n-stuff, so I’d rather him be the right one in the relationship.
AAAAnd now, the lineup of your Friday morning Do-Rite Donuts.
{Said loudly in a baseball announcer man voice}
Hello, old fashioned cinnamon crunch heaven. Welcome to our table.
He’s even handsome mid-bite.
I, myself, decided against the mid-bite picture and chose instead
the  old hold-the-donut-up-while-the-man-walks-behind-me pose.
These little birds get SO close to you!
Also, let us not forget how AH-MAZING Dark Matter Coffee tastes.
Roasted right here in the Windy City.

I was going to put these pictures of us side by side but we literally looked like a pair of boobs.

It was a lovely city morning.
I was overwhelmed by PK’s grace and patience with me prior to leaving for our donut date. I was being incredibly difficult and he showed me God’s love with his consistent pursuit of my heart. He showed me God’s love with how quick he was to forgive me. None of that I deserved.
He even posed for a picture inside of an oversized donut.
That, my friends, is love.

Thanksgiving Weekend: Round Two!

Turkey Day 5k was a huge success.
We had fun, got some exercise, and went back home to even out all the calories we burned.
First things first: Mimosas. It’s what we do.
Mmmmm. Homemade pumpkin doughnut holes. And a creepy reflection of my face.
Sis-in-law “resting her eyes” as my mom calls it.
The morning consisted of lounging around watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and football.
In other words….’Merica. The day went by slow which was just how I wanted it to be.
Relaxing, cozy and comfy.
If you know me, you know I take at least one picture a day of our dining room table and put it on Instagram. It seems like it anyway.
We received these lovely napkins for our wedding and I LOVE them.
Clean, classic, and who doesn’t love a good monogram?
After setting the table and taking a moment to Instagram, we got to work! PK is the pie maker every Thanksgiving. This year he made an amazing open-faced apple pie and a delish pumpkin pie. Homemade crust and everything. This was the best crust yet!
Turkey is brined, cooked and ready to eat! Here’s my man with this nice apron that is supposed to go around the waist. Made by my talented friend, Andrea.
Eat up, kiddies!

Some of our sweetest friends, Jamie and Kinzi came for dinner. Aren’t they so cute?!
Kinzi made some INCREDIBLE truffles for us to eat. You can find the recipe here. They are by far one of the best desserts I’ve had. And they make me feel fancy. And I hear they are super easy to whip up.
Speaking of cute, get a load of their cute lil son, Tripp! I love this baby so much!
Turkey butt.
Thanking the Lord for such a sweet day, family and the sweetest of friends.
We had a lot of fun, ate a lot of food, and I am grateful for it all.

Sleep for baby. Big lesson for Mom

Sleep. One of the many hot topics as PK and I delve into this world of parenting. Do we put the baby on a schedule? No schedule? Feed him to sleep? Let him cry? All’s I know is our kid needs sleep and he’s not getting any. Call it the four month sleep regression then mix it with a little teething, and it’s a recipe for some sleepless nights and days where naps last about 15 minutes. (Sometimes I say 20 minutes to make myself feel better. Haha!) There are SO many opinions about this. And theories. And I’ve just been praying and asking God to help me know what is best for Eddy. To help me know my boy better and to give me wisdom in how to go about this thing. I’m clueless and all the things out there make me not want to read anything because it’s so overwhelming! Waaaaah!
All to say, we’ve had a rough go at it, but it’s getting better. We indeed started Eddy on a more structured schedule, our sweet new neighbor let me borrow a Rock-n-Play which is a Godsend, and I stopped feeding him to sleep in the day. And as I type this, he’s been asleep for 41 minutes which is a world record as of late. All I can say is…
As I’ve been shushing and soothing and rocking and singing while Eddy fights sleep with all his might, I get the picture in my mind of God doing the same with me. Not with sleep, but with my heart. And my will. And my mind that thinks I know better than He does. And when I fight it, oh the sweet things I miss out on. What He wants for me is to come to Him, to rest in Him, for my soul to be rejuvenated, for my mind to be restored. To believe His truth and live it out, not from my own strength but from His.  What a sweet picture it is of God relentlessly loving me and holding my heart and not letting go. As He fights for me, He knows what is best. He calls me to climb up in His lap and just be.
I am oddly thankful for the sleepless nights and tough days and for Eddy teaching me lessons at the ripe ol’ age of four months old. Do I want them to continue? Meeeh, no. But they do remind me to trust. To let go. To know Him and be known by Him. And rest.
